Firestone Officers Training for Border to Border Bike Ride Fundraiser

The Firestone Police Department has two officers training for the 2023 Border to Border bike ride hosted by Shield616 that will be from September 13 – 17. Over those five days, Officer Gretchen Meyers and Sergeant Ray Bueno will cover over 330 miles, including over 9,700 feet of elevation.  

The Border to Border ride started in 2016 as a fundraiser for Shield616, a non-profit from Colorado Springs that has a mission of providing all-day rifle protection for peace officers and first responders who serve their communities. Since then, they have donated 6,500 vests to hundreds of agencies across the USA. 

The Firestone Police Department is aiming to raise funds to cover 10 all-day rifle vests.  All uniformed officers with the Firestone Police Department are issued bulletproof vests.  These vests are worn all shift and designed to stop handgun calibers, not rifle threats.  The vests that Shield616 donates are state of the art and provide police officers with an extra layer of protection with two rifle plates that are inserted into a protective vest that can be worn all shift.
